Okay, I have been preparing and working on doing a presentation for the student teachers at Martin for the past two months. I wanted to let them know that the school librarian of the past is no more and that the librarian of the 21st century has more to offer than dusty books.
My husband asked me why I was doing it. I wasn't getting a grade on it, so why bother. My response? I don't need a grade to do the right thing. There is no point in going to school and learning new things if I can't use them. The only way I can be sure that I get to use them is to make friends and influence people. I consider a new batch of teachers to be the most easily influenced AND most eager to also make friends. Letting them know the possibilities will make it easier for whatever librarian they come in contact with to collaborate, share, and enrich student's lives.
To me, there is no reason to NOT do something that will benefit so many people. We are taught, in a roundabout way, to advocate for our libraries. This was my advocacy and I am very proud of it - though it drove me crazy;-)
